Late Again
From bed to the bus, a few seconds a job

The sun, the sea, the gulls and the crabs all take turns trying to spoil a perfect beach day, and you have a few seconds at a time to stop them: lick an ice cream before it drips, skim a stone out to the buoy, rub in sun cream before the pink spots go red. Three ice creams are your lives, and every tenth wave the BIG WAVE rolls in.
Did you like Sun's Out?
Sun's Out is one perfect, hectic day at the beach. Your sunbather is round and little, with big sunglasses and a rubber ring, and the sun, the sea, the gulls and the crabs all take turns trying to spoil their day. Between tasks a big striped beach umbrella opens over the screen, and the next spot along the beach is waiting under it: the Snack Hut, the Rock Pools, the Pier.
Each task is one word and one look. LICK! is tapping each drip on a melting ice cream before it reaches your hand; one gets there and the scoop plops onto your head. SKIM! is a flat swipe that skips a stone out to the buoy to ring its bell. PADDLE! is tapping left, right, left, right to bring a lilo in to the flag on the beach, RUB! is rubbing sun cream into pink spots before they turn red, and SHOO! is swiping the gulls away from a cone of hot chips. Some you win by holding out: SURF! is holding to drop down the wave and letting go to climb, so you stay in the curl, and CRAB! is dragging your toes away from a curious crab until the time is up. There is also a moat to dig, a boardwalk to tiptoe along over the scorching sand, a beach ball to keep up and a dive off the pier into a drifting dinghy.
A run is endless: the tasks keep coming until all three ice creams have melted, one for every task that goes wrong. Each wave is a little faster than the last, up to about twice the starting pace, with a HOTTER! sign every five waves. Every tenth wave is the BIG WAVE: mash to haul the towel, the cool box, the umbrella and, last and heaviest, your friend who has slept through the whole thing up the dune before the water comes crashing in. Make it for SUN KISSED!, a new title, from Sand Kicker and Shell Collector up to Ruler of the Waves, and a melted ice cream back. The HOLIDAY SNAPS show the wave you reached, your best wave is your high score and is saved in your browser, and the TOYS button lets you practise any task you have met.
The first three waves only bring LICK!, PADDLE!, RUB! and SKIM!, then all eleven tasks come round once before any repeats. PADDLE! wants an even left, right rhythm: the current pulls the lilo back all the time, and the same hand twice only spins it. In LICK! tap each drip as soon as it starts to run, because they run faster as the ice cream warms, and a tap that misses costs nothing. DIVE! is one well-timed tap: the jump always lands on the ripple, so tap while the dinghy is still on its way there. SURF!, CRAB! and SPIKE! are won by holding out until the time runs out. In SURF! hold to drop and let go to climb in short touches, so you stay in the curl, and in CRAB! keep your finger down and move your toes well away when the claws go up.
Each wave is a little quicker, with HOTTER! every five, until the pace levels off at about twice the start around wave 46. In the BIG WAVE you haul one load at a time and your friend is the heaviest, but every tap carries further as the pace rises, so a steady five taps a second is enough. Use TOYS to practise a task that keeps melting your ice creams.
Yes. Sun's Out is free to play in your browser on Kiloo, with nothing to download, no account to make and nothing to buy. Your best wave and the tasks you have met are saved in the browser on this device, so they are there for your next day at the beach.
Yes. Every task uses one finger, upright or sideways: tap, hold, drag, swipe, rub, circle, trace or mash, as the little hand shows before it starts. On a computer the mouse does the same, Space or Enter starts a run and works like the mouse button during a task, P or Esc pauses and M mutes.
Only the BIG WAVE every tenth wave gives one back. Mash to haul the towel, the cool box, the umbrella and your friend up the dune before the water arrives, and a melted ice cream returns if you have lost one. Most BIG WAVES also bring a new title, from Shell Collector at wave 10 to Beach Legend at 60 and Ruler of the Waves at 80.
Swipe to the right, as flat as you can. The flatter the swipe, the more times the stone skips, and it needs three skips to ring the bell, sometimes four later on. A steep swipe sinks it, one straight up comes straight back down and one to the left lands on the sand. You have two stones, so a poor first throw still leaves a second.
Five seconds, one word, don't drop it.
