What makes a good castle game

A castle game puts a castle at the centre of the action, and then asks you to do something with it. You might build one stone by stone, raise one out of a village, defend its gate against wave after wave, or march across a map to take somebody else's. The castle gives every game a clear goal you can see on screen: keep yours standing, or bring theirs down.

The eight castle games on Kiloo come from strategy, tower defence, shooting, platform, building, two-player and 3D. That makes it one of the widest mixes on the site, from slow turn-based tactics on a hex map to a stand on the wall with nothing but a bow. What they share is the setting of knights, archers, catapults and goblins, and controls that work on a computer and on a phone.

Castle games to start with

If you want to defend, Goblin Siege is the classic: build archer towers, cannons and wizard spires along a meadow road, send a knight to block the bridge and hold the gate through fifteen waves of goblins, then go on into an endless run. Bow Guard puts you on the wall yourself. Draw the bow, lead your shots under real gravity and stop goblins, wolves, ladders, battering rams and balloon riders, with fire, ice, split and bomb arrows bought with gold between waves.

If you want to attack, Siege Lords is turn-based tactics on a hand-painted hex map. Move knights, archers, pikemen, cavalry, catapults and healers a hex at a time, see the exact damage before you commit and take the castle. Kingdom Clash is a 3D lane battle where every unit card is a building that keeps sending its unit down the lane until a castle falls. Castle Cannons is a duel between two paper castles: drag back from your cannon, watch the dotted arc bend in the wind and knock the walls out from under the king.

If you would rather build, Castle Architect has you stack stones, arches, cone roofs and a gate on a storybook hill, then press Test while a gust of wind and soft pumpkins try the walls. Tiny Kingdom starts with a keep and a handful of villagers and grows into a town, then raises the keep through three stages into a full castle. Pixel Knight is the castle from the inside: a small knight climbs a haunted castle across fifteen stages with wall-jumps, a three-hit sword combo, parries against shielded guards and bosses to beat.

Controls and tips for keeping the walls up

Most castle games here are played with clicks or taps. You click a stone plinth to build in Goblin Siege, click a unit and then a highlighted hex in Siege Lords, and click a free plot and then a card in Kingdom Clash. Bow Guard and Castle Cannons are aimed by dragging back and letting go, with the arrows and Space as a keyboard option. Pixel Knight is a platformer, so it uses the arrows or WASD to move, Space, Z or W to jump and X, J or K to slash, with an on-screen pad on a phone.

In Goblin Siege, hold a tower to see its range before you build the next one, and call a wave early for bonus gold only when you are sure your towers can hold. In Siege Lords, use the counters: pikemen brace against cavalry, cavalry ride down archers and archers pick pikemen apart. In Castle Architect, check for overhangs before you press Test, because they tip.

Frequently asked questions

Are the castle games on Kiloo free?

Yes. Every castle game on Kiloo is free to play in your browser. There is nothing to download or install and no account needed. Your stars, best times, saved castles and unlocked levels are kept in the browser you play in, so they stay on that device.

Can I play castle games on my phone or tablet?

Yes, all eight castle games work on phones and tablets as well as on computers. You tap to build, pick and place, drag back to fire in Bow Guard and Castle Cannons, and Pixel Knight shows an on-screen pad with a SLASH button. Castle Cannons even folds its stage in half for two players on one phone.

Which castle game should I start with?

Goblin Siege is a friendly start if you like defending: place towers, upgrade them and watch the waves come. If you prefer building, try Castle Architect or Tiny Kingdom. Siege Lords is the deepest of the eight and suits you once you enjoy planning several moves ahead.

Can two people play on one device?

Yes, two of them. Castle Cannons is a same-screen duel between two paper castles, best of three rounds, and Siege Lords has hot-seat two-player on the same device. Both can also be played alone against Easy, Normal or Sharp computer opponents.

Do I defend the castle or attack it?

It depends on the game. You defend in Goblin Siege and Bow Guard, attack in Siege Lords, Castle Cannons and Kingdom Clash, and build in Castle Architect and Tiny Kingdom, where bandit raids and a wind test still check your walls. In Pixel Knight you climb a haunted castle yourself.
