What makes a good cat game

A cat game is any game where a cat is the reason you play: one you look after, one you look for or a whole room of them you keep content. Cats are easy to love on a screen. They purr when you pet them, curl up in baskets and turn up in places they should not be, and good cat games use all of that.

The cat games on Kiloo come from several categories. Three are pet care games in which cats are among the animals you feed, treat and pamper. One is a grooming salon, one is an idle cafe full of cats, one is a picture-hunt where cats hide in busy scenes, and one is a word game with a kitten in a hot-air balloon. They are gentle, they are mostly about patience rather than speed, and several of them suit young children well.

Cat games to start with

Kitten Corner is the one to start with if you want a cat of your own. Adopt a kitten, name it with letter tiles and give it a sunny corner of the flat: fill the bowl, pour the water, wave the feather wand and rub its back until it purrs. Good care brings collars, hats and up to two more kittens. Cat Cafe is calmer and slower. You tap cats to pet them and collect hearts, customers come in out of the rain to sit with them, and the happier the room the faster the coins arrive.

Cat Hunt is a find-the-cats game: drag around fifteen busy picture-book scenes, zoom in and tap the eight cats hiding in windows, on roofs and behind legs. Word Rescue is a word-guessing game where a ginger kitten floats in a balloon above a meadow. Every right letter flips a card, every wrong one drops a sandbag, and filling the word brings the kitten safely down.

In the care games, cats share the room with other animals. Vet Clinic has kittens among its patients, treated with a stethoscope, tweezers or a warm blanket. Pet Hotel checks cats in beside dogs and rabbits for food, play and a bedtime story, and Pet Groomer washes, dries, trims and dresses a cat for the photo booth.

Playing cat games with a mouse or a finger

Every cat game on this page works on computers, tablets and phones. With a mouse you click a cat to pet it in Cat Cafe, click a hidden cat in Cat Hunt and drag tools from a tray onto the animal in Kitten Corner, Vet Clinic, Pet Hotel and Pet Groomer. On a touch screen you tap and drag the same way, and rubbing a cat with your finger is how you pet or brush it. Cat Hunt adds pinch to zoom.

Word Rescue is typed on a keyboard, with H for a hint and N for a new word, and on a phone you tap letters on an on-screen board. Several games have keyboard controls as well, such as Tab or the arrow keys with Enter or Space in Kitten Corner and Vet Clinic. If you are stuck in Cat Hunt, the paw-print hint points the way.
