Match jellies, earn stars and paint Valerie's story

A swap match-3 under a night sky. Line up three or more constellation gems to clear them, make comet lines, nova bombs, UFOs and rainbow balls from the bigger matches, and crack the star crates, moons and frost that each level puts in your way. Every level you win pays starlight, and on the home sky your starlight lights the next star of a real constellation, from Triangulum in autumn to Scorpius in summer.

Starlighter is a swap match-3 played on a night sky. Swap two neighbouring gems to line up three or more of a kind and they vanish, the gems above fall and new ones drop in. Four in a row leave a comet line that clears a whole row or column, an L or a T leaves a nova bomb that blasts the cells around it, a square of four makes a UFO that flies off to hit a target of its own, and five in a row leave a rainbow ball that takes every gem of one colour; swap two powers together for something bigger. Each of the 30 levels sets its goals inside a fixed number of moves: so many gems of a colour, star crates to smash through up to four layers, moons that fill up with every hit until they clear, and frost that melts when you match on top of it. The later levels are drawn as night-sky shapes, a shooting star, a comet, Orion's Belt, a spiral galaxy, with the move budget to match. There are no lives: play as long as you like, and when the moves run out you can buy five more with coins or try again.
Every level you win pays one to three starlight, depending on how many moves you have left; beating your best on a replay pays the difference. Starlight is spent on the home sky. There the stars of a real constellation wait in the dark, and each starlight you spend lights the next one and draws a glowing line to it. Twelve constellations follow the seasons of the year: Triangulum, Aries and Cassiopeia in autumn, Orion, Gemini and Canis Major in winter, Leo, Ursa Major and Corona Borealis in spring, Lyra, Cygnus and Scorpius in summer, 82 stars in all, and the first star of each figure is lit for you when you arrive. A finished figure turns golden, shows its name, its brightest star and a fact about it, and pays coins and a booster before the sky glides on to the next. The star atlas keeps the whole year in view.
Coins come from levels and finished constellations. Before a level you can spend them on one of five boosts that place a power on the board from the first move: Comet, UFO, Nova, Combo and Rainbow. Under the board wait four boosters for the tight spots: a comet strike that clears one tile, a star beam that clears a row, a sky beam that clears a column and an orbit swirl that shuffles the gems; you start with one of each, constellations pay more, and coins buy one when you have none. Once per constellation the Ember Express steams across the sky: feed its engine an ember for 40 coins and it leaves a starlight behind. Play with a swipe or a drag of the mouse; your sky, your coins and your level stars are saved in your browser.
Starlighter pays for the match you set up, not the first one you see. Three gems clear three gems, but four in a row leave a comet line, an L or a T a nova bomb, a square of four a UFO and five in a row a rainbow ball, so look for the swap that makes a shape before you take the obvious three. Two powers side by side are worth a swap: a nova with a comet line sweeps a wide cross, and a rainbow ball with anything clears far more. Moons and star crates break from matches next to them, so work along their edges, and frost melts only under a match.
Moves left are starlight: finish with a few to spare and a level pays two or three instead of one, and a replay only pays what you add to your best. Spend starlight as soon as you have it; a finished constellation pays coins and a booster. Keep the boosters for levels that are slipping: the comet strike takes one stubborn crate, the beams clear a line of frost, the orbit swirl rescues a board with no moves. Feed the Ember Express once per constellation when coins allow; forty coins for a starlight is cheaper than replaying a level.
Yes. Starlighter is free to play in your browser on Kiloo. There is nothing to download, no account to make and nothing to buy inside the game: coins are earned by playing, and your sky, your coins and your level stars are saved in the browser you play in.
Yes. The levels are made for a swipe: drag a gem onto a neighbour to swap them, tap a power to set it off and tap a booster under the board to arm it. On the home sky you drag to pan and pinch to zoom. On a computer the mouse and the scroll wheel do the same, and a phone held sideways gets the board at full height.
Win a level: every win pays one to three starlight by the moves you have left. Back on the home sky, the next star of the current constellation pulses; tap it or the Light a star button and a starlight flies up, a line grows from a lit neighbour and the star ignites. When the last star lights, the figure turns golden and the sky glides on.
Twelve real ones, in the order of the seasons: Triangulum, Aries and Cassiopeia for autumn, Orion, Gemini and Canis Major for winter, Leo, Ursa Major and Corona Borealis for spring, and Lyra, Cygnus and Scorpius for summer. Their stars sit where they really are in the sky, and each finished figure tells you its brightest star and one fact about it.
