Tank Headz

Tank Headz is a multiplayer-style tank arena in 3D, set in a wide cartoon canyon: banded red-rock walls, a scrap fortress with a gantry and hanging tyres, a cluster of mesas, a dirt loop lined with striped barriers, and plenty of open sand. You drive a riveted, rust-red tank with a big yellow cannon and a red-haired driver in sunglasses lounging in the open behind it, with a gecko riding on the hull, and you share the sand with five rivals who each bring a tank and a driver of their own: Ziggy in his blue hoodie with a crane arm, Bolt the robot with twin barrels, Bruno the bear with a dozer blade, Ace the pilot in an armoured car and Salty the pirate behind a cannon with an eye painted on it.

Shells fly in an arc, so range matters as much as direction: the mouse picks the spot on the sand where the shell will come down, and a ring shows you where. A direct hit takes two of a tank's three pips and a near miss splashes one. Run out and your tank is knocked out: it smokes and sparks, stars spin over it and the driver bails out under a parachute, then the tank pops back in three seconds later. Every knockout scores, and a running scoreboard of all six names, a knockout feed and a minimap tell you who to watch. Power-ups float on pads around the arena: a shimmering bubble shield, a speed boost and a triple shot.

A round lasts three minutes, against Easy, Normal or Sharp rivals. Endless has no clock and three lives instead, and the rivals get sharper the longer you last, so it is all about the high score. Drive with WASD or the arrow keys (the tank turns on the spot), aim with the mouse, click or press Space to fire and hold Shift to drift. On a phone or tablet the left thumb drives and the right thumb aims, firing while you hold it. Your best scores are saved in your browser. P pauses, M mutes.
