Crazy Eights

Crazy Eights is the card game you already know, dealt on a bright teal table with three very expressive rivals. Play a card that matches the top of the discard pile by suit or by number. Eights are wild: drop one whenever you like and name the suit the table has to follow. Run out of matches and you draw up to three cards before your turn passes on.

Hoot the owl, Rusk the fox and Blip the frog take the other seats, and they do not hide what they are thinking. They look smug when they slap down an eight and change the suit under your nose, and they start sweating the moment you are down to your last card. Pick one, two or three of them, and set them to Easy, Normal or Sharp. Easy plays whatever fits, Normal hoards its eights and leans on its strongest suit, and Sharp counts the suits that have already gone and cuts you off when you get close.

Empty your hand to take the round and score everything the others are still holding: fifty for an eight, ten for a court card and face value for the rest. A round-by-round scoreboard keeps the running total, and the first player to a hundred points takes the match. Three optional house rules are on the title screen if you like your card games noisier: a two makes the next player draw two, a queen skips them, and an ace turns the play around. Cards can be tapped or dragged, the number keys play straight from your hand, and your best match score is kept in your browser.
