Pair Up

Pair Up is memory pairs, laid out on a warm green felt table with a gold inlay running around the board. Every card is drawn in code rather than stamped from a picture file, so the animals have whiskers and ear tufts, the fruit has stems and pips, the space deck has ringed planets and comets with real tails, and the shapes deck is clean geometry in bright colours. Each deck has its own card back with its own pattern — paw prints, leaves, little stars, chevrons — so a board never looks like the last one. Cards turn over with a proper flip: they lift off the felt, narrow as they pass through the edge and land face up with a gentle chime.

Pick a board from a quick 4 × 3 up to the full 6 × 6, and pick how you want to play. Classic keeps score and counts your flips. Timed runs a clock and keeps your best time for every board separately. The daily board is dealt from the date, so the grid, the deck and the layout are the same for everyone until midnight — a two-minute workout for the brain with your morning coffee. And two players can share one device: whoever finds a pair keeps it, takes another turn, and the majority of pairs wins. Matched cards carry a coloured ribbon and a corner pip so you can always see whose pile is whose.

Scoring rewards a sharp memory rather than fast hands. Matches in a row build a multiplier up to three times, and at the end of the board an efficiency bonus pays out on how few flips you spent — a perfect run, where every card is turned over exactly once, is worth the lot. Play with a mouse, with a finger, or entirely on the keyboard: the arrow keys move a marker around the grid and Enter turns a card. Your fewest flips, best time and best score for every board and every mode are kept on your own device.
