Grid Knight
Turn-based bonks on a tile grid

A young mage, a glowing scroll and an orange cat familiar take on thirty rival students, enchanted brooms, slimes, a grumpy cloud and a mirror copy of themselves. Mix runes into spells, read what the rival is about to do and cast the counter.
Spell Scroll is a turn-based duel game about mixing magic. Your scroll has three rune slots and your pouch holds eight kinds of rune: fire, water, wind, earth, light, shadow, spark and bloom. Put two runes together and they make a spell, so fire and wind give you a Firestorm, water and earth raise a Mud Wall and light with bloom is a proper Heal. Three of a kind makes something big, like an Inferno or a Thunderstorm, and a third rune in the boost slot adds its own power on top. There are 36 spells to discover, and the spellbook fills in every time you try a new mix.
Every duel is a little brain puzzle with all the numbers on the table. Before you cast, your rival shows what it is about to do: an attack and its element, a guard, a big wind-up or a hex. Water blocks fire, fire beats bloom, bloom beats water, wind beats earth, earth beats spark, spark beats wind, and light and shadow cancel each other out, so the right rune halves the hit and the rival's weakness doubles your damage. Duels are quick, a few turns each, and when a rival is out of puff it bows out. If you faint, you rest and try again.
The campaign runs through six schools, from the sunny Meadow and the Lake to Lantern Town and the Mirror Tower, five rivals each with a captain at the end, and it saves after every turn, so you can close the tab mid-duel and pick up exactly where you were. Duels earn coins for upgrading your runes, stars reward a fast, healthy win, and Spell Storm is an endless gauntlet of rivals that gets tougher with every one you beat, with your high score saved in your browser. Play with a mouse, the keyboard or touch.
