Here’s what you have to do in this free online game: go from saloon to saloon winning tournament after tournament until you’ve raked up a heapin’ pile of greenbacks! Maybe then, the governor will see just how lucrative poker can be for the people of his state. But wait a second, you might be saying to yourself. I have no idea how to play poker! Class is in session, newbie. Take a seat.
Never Played? Here’s the Gist, Rookie
This ain’t no peaceful game of solitaire, buddy. This here’s Texas hold ‘em, and we play for cold hard cash. You’ve got two cards in your hand that nobody else can see, as do all of your opponents. The dealer then lays down three cards face up in the middle of the table. Everyone can use these cards as part of their two-card hands. So, if you have a king and eight, and the dealer sets down an eight, a six, and a nine, then you have a pair of nines. After the three cards are dealt, everyone bets. Then, a fourth card is dealt face up for everyone to use – this is called the “flop.” Once again, another round of betting. After the fifth card is dealt face up, then everyone bets one more time. This is the exciting part – show ‘em! Whoever has the best hand after all five cards have been dealt wins the pot.
How to Dominate the Table
Now, we just done taught you how to play, but we ain’t say nothing about how to win yet. It would take volumes to describe all the little tricks and things you can do to get an edge in hold ‘em, but for today’s purposes, we’ll just give you our top Governor of Poker tips. First and foremost, you gotta do what the song says: know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em! If you have a face card, chances are you want to stick around. If you only have number cards, it may be a good time to fold. Next, you gotta read your opponents. If someone next to you starts betting like crazy, they’re either bluffing or they have an amazing hand. It’s up to you to decide which one based on how it turns out.
